Brief Guide to Charging:
If you have never used a Public Chargepoint before, you may be apprehensive. This is perfectly normal. Charging your Electric Vehicle should be Straightforward.
All New High Powered Rapid & Ultra-Rapid Chargers (50kW and above) should be Contactless Payment enabled for ease of use and certainly from the end of November 2024.
Tip
Check for Parking Restrictions Prior to Charging.
Some Locations have a time Limit. Others you have to Register your vehicle (at a hotel for example)
You'll want to avoid any possibility of a Fine / Penalty Charge Notice so be mindful of your surroundings, particularly if you have not visited this Charging Location before.
Tip
Try to find a Chargepoint near to your location and try that out to give you confidence prior to embarking on a longer journey.
Tip
Some networks are slightly different to others, Some ask you to present your Payment card BEFORE you plug in your vehicle and some the other way around. There are usually signs with instructions to assist you.
If you have any issues whilst charging your vehicle you can contact the Chargepoint operator by telephone for further assistance. 24/7 Helplines are a mandatory requirement and must be free from November 2024.
Tip
NOTE: It is not necessary to have an App for each network, however it may be advantageous for those you commonly use. You will often benefit from the best rates p/kWh by paying via an app linked to your credit or debit card.
WE ALWAYS RECOMMEND YOU USE A CREDIT CARD AND NOT A DEBIT CARD WHEN UNDERTAKING ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING PAYMENTS. Credit Cards offer enhanced Consumer protection.
You may also wish to use a Provider such as Octopus Electroverse RFID card / App to start and stop your Charging. In this way you can avoid incurring pre-authorisation amounts which can be up to £60.
You may wish to use Zap-Map and Zap-Pay if you charge at lots of different networks and for lower power AC Charging, this method is much more secure than using QR Code stickers. Check the terms and conditions if you use a third party as the Price you pay can vary from the PAYG price both up and down.
Stopping the Charge:
You can Stop the Vehicle Charging at any time. Most but not All Charge Points are programmed to Stop the Charging Session when your Traction Battery reaches 80% State of Charge.
To Stop the Charging, select your Charging Session on the Screen, (the screen may be blank after a while so press the lit button under the screen)
Then press Stop button on the Screen itself.
You can also Stop the Charge via the App on your phone.
If you have used a Bank Card or RFID Charge card you may need to present that card again, to ensure you are authorised to Stop the Charge. After all you dont want someone else Stopping it!
Tip
Always be mindful and check your statements to ensure that any pre-authorisation amounts are returned to you and do not become actual financial £ charges. By using a Credit card / app linked to a Credit card, your credit card provider can assist you in getting any monies owed to you returned.

CCS2 Tips
When using CCS2 - Remove the Plastic/rubber Cover for the High Power DC Connectors.
Support the cable until it makes a good connection. Sometimes the Pins wear causing communication errors.
Hold the Plug until Charging begins if errors occur. If no luck after 2 tries move your vehicle to a different Charger.
